Executive Director Gypsy Ray and Bonnie HamiltonHow We Started
Mountain Home Montana was founded in 1998 by Laura Snyder, who brought together $54,000 and the first Board of Directors to get the organization started. In 1999, Bonnie Hamilton donated her home to the program, leaving her legacy for years to come. Mountain Home Montana opened its doors August 7, 2000 with room for 3 moms and babies. In 2001, the home expanded to 6 rooms. We decided to adjust the age requirements to 16-24 in 2009 as a response to the amount of client referrals we received falling outside the 14-19 age range we previously served.
In June 2010, Mountain Home Montana broke ground on the new Transitional Living Apartments, a dream of ours since we began. The apartments provide much needed additional housing in Missoula for low-income and homeless populations. We opened the apartments in June of 2011 which allowed us to nearly double our capacity. Mountain Home Montana is now able to serve 11 of Montana’s most vulnerable families.
Since Mountain Home Montana opened its doors, we have helped over 300 young mothers and their children.
